GM Valentina Gunina clinches her fourth victory in the 17th Queens Wednesday tournament, tying with GM Alexandra Kosteniuk and surpassing her on tiebreaks. The event also saw a remarkable top 3 debut from 20-year-old WCM Assel Lesbekova, showcasing the rising talent in women’s chess.

In a spectacular showcase of skill and determination, GM Valentina Gunina has once again emerged victorious in the 17th Queens Wednesday tournament. With an impressive score of 9/11, Gunina tied with GM Alexandra Kosteniuk, ultimately surpassing her on tiebreaks to claim her fourth victory in the series.

GM Alexandra Kosteniuk, a formidable force in the tournament, secured the 2nd position with her consistent excellence. This marks Kosteniuk’s 8th top 3 finish of the Queens Wednesday Series, and her 12th appearance overall in the event. Her dedication and performance continue to set a high standard in women’s chess.

Adding fresh excitement to the top 3 is Assel Lesbekova, a 20-year-old WCM from Kyrgyzstan. Despite her relatively lower rating, Lesbekova’s results have been steadily improving over the past weeks. Her determination and consistency were on full display as she secured notable victories against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk and WGM Priyanka Nutakki, finishing with 8.5/11 .

The tournament also featured strong performances from IM Mai Narva and WFM Varvara Poliakova, who secured the 4th and 5th positions respectively.
