Abdusattorov Triumphs in Prague Masters, Ascends to World No.4

The Prague Masters witnessed a remarkable display of skill and determination as 19-year-old GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov emerged victorious with a round to spare. In a field brimming with talent, including three candidates, Abdusattorov’s stellar performance propelled him to the coveted fourth position in the live ratings, surpassing the reigning World Champion Ding Liren.

The decisive moment came in round 8 when Abdusattorov clashed with GM Parham Maghsoodloo in a thrilling encounter reminiscent of their previous showdown in Wijk aan Zee earlier in the year. In a display of strategic brilliance, the 19-year-old Uzbek GM emerged triumphant, securing the crucial victory that propelled him past Ding Liren in the ratings.

Maintaining his newfound world number-four status, Abdusattorov concluded the tournament with a strategic draw against Grandmaster Richard Rapport in the final round. Despite draws dominating the Thursday finale across all boards, Abdusattorov’s commanding lead of 1.5 points ensured his undisputed victory in the Prague Masters.

Reflecting on his triumph, the young prodigy expressed both joy and gratitude, stating, “I’m a bit tired but, really, very happy that I managed to win. I rank this success high in my career. It was one of my best tournaments.” His sentiments echoed the sentiments of chess enthusiasts worldwide, who marveled at the skill and tenacity displayed throughout the event.

The Prague Masters showcased a wealth of exceptional chess talent, with Abdusattorov himself remarking, “I enjoyed every game. It was a very competitive tournament.” Despite his remarkable success though, Nodirbek remained humble about his journey, acknowledging his decision to bypass this year’s Candidates Tournament. “I feel this cycle is not my cycle,” he admitted. “I don’t regret not playing in the Candidates this year. I feel like I am not quite there yet. I’ll have more time till the next cycle and I’ll gain more experience. I hope I’ll be ready for the next tournament.”

As the curtains draw to a close on the Prague Masters, chess aficionados eagerly anticipate Abdusattorov’s future exploits, confident in his ability to continue dazzling the chess world with his unparalleled skill and unwavering determination.
