Game 2 of the FIDE Grand Prix 2022 finals started with the Italian Opening, and evolved smoothly and steadily. Nakamura spent just over 30 minutes deciding not to play 15...d5 and going for 15...Qc7, while Aronian immediately replied by pushing his own d-pawn with 16.d4. “Aronian is once more very well prepared” Miro commented.

GM Daniil Dubov noticed about Nakamura’s choice of moves: “This is actually how Magnus plays these positions with black”!

Eventually the game ended on move 29 in a threefold repetition. Aronian and Nakamura will face each other tomorrow in the tiebreaks.
