Day 3 of the World Chess Armageddon: Asia & Oceania is over with the Indian superstar Vidit Gujrathi, and the two-time Indian Champion Karthikeyan Murali eliminating GM Yu Yangyi and the tournament’s top seed GM Daniil Dubov respectively, both in Armageddon!

It was an eventful day at the World Chess Armageddon Championship Series yesterday, as both matches went to the Armageddon with Vidit Gujrathi bouncing back after a terrible loss in game 1 of the match against Yu Yangyi, and the tournament’s top seed Daniil Dubov being totally disappointed after losing the Armageddon against the lowest-rated player of the tournament, Karthikeyan Murali. In Day 2 Dubov has suffered another Armageddon loss, this time against the former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik, who managed to flag him.

The first match of the day was Vidit Gujrathi vs Yu Yangyi. Vidit might have lost the first game but managed to bounce back in the second one and play an amazing Armageddon game which kept us all on our feet to finally win the match.

“I was one mistake away from going home and my home is really far, so i didn’t want to go back!” Vidit told Jovanka Houska and Jan Gustafsson after the game.

The second match was Daniil Dubov vs Karthikeyan Murali, a match that definitely had a favorite. It was a rough start though for the tournament’s top seed who lost the first game convincingly. Game No.2 was a total come-back for Dubov who entered the Armageddon match with confidence. That wasn’t enough to grant him a win with Dubov getting eliminated from the tournament.

Tonight at 20:00 CET we have two really exciting matches with the 18-year-old Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov and the 16-year-old Indian GM Gukesh D. battling each other under immerse time pressure, while the former World Champion will go against the 3-time Iranian Champion Parham Maghsoodloo.
