Tiebreaks will decide the new World Chess Champion

Game 14, the last game of the 2023 World Chess Championship between Ding Liren and Ian Nepomniachtchi, ended in a draw after seven hours. Tomorrow the tie-break will determine the next World Champion.

Ding Liren played all-in with White in the last classical game of the 2023 World Chess Championship. The Nimzo-Indian Defence worked great for Nepo, especially after Ding’s ambitious plan with 12.Ng5, h6 13.h4.

“I was very excited after Ng5, but then after Qc7 I realised I had to go to the defensive mode” Ding Liren commenting with Nepo replying: “If Ng5 and h4 would win every game, chess would be much easier for White!”

After 13...Qc7, Nepo started to build on his advantage and once more the title seemed closer than ever. But if this Match has showed anything is that chess is unpredictable and totally related to the players’ nerves. Just one rushed move by Nepo and Ding Liren forced a drawn rook endgame to push the Match to the tie-break.

After the press conference Ding Liren chose a box which determined that he will have White for the 1st tiebreak game tomorrow. Will it be his lucky one?
