Wesley So wins the Norway Chess Blitz Tournament

The tenth edition of the Norway Chess Tournament started yesterday with a blitz tournament to decide who will get more whites in the main event. GM Wesley So won this first blitz tournament with 6.5 points, followed by Magnus Carlsen with 5.5 points.

Norway Chess is one of the world’s most prestigious chess tournaments held in Stavanger, Norway. There are 10 players participating including the World Champion Magnus Carlsen, GMs Wesley So, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Anish Giri, Vishy Anand, Veselin Topalov, and Aryan Tari who replaced the last-minute “dropout”, Richard Rapport.

“I’m really looking forward to playing Norway Chess again, and it feels extra special that it’s 10 years anniversary this year! A very interesting field, where there are several players I have not played against before, which makes it very fun. ” Aryan Tari commented.

On May 30th the blitz tournament kicked off with Wesley So winning to pick his starting number for the classical tournament; he chose #1. Today, on May 31st at 17:00 CEST, the main tournament will start with Wesley So facing Teimour Radjabov.
