Vidit Gujrathi beats Magnus Carlsen at the Pro Chess League

Indian No.2 Vidit Gujrathi beat World Champion Magnus Carlsen with the black pieces in a Pro Chess League Encounter to lead his team, Indian Yogis, to an epic win against the Canada Chessbrahs.

The Pro Chess League is an online global chess league for teams across the world. The event features 16 teams playing rapid games for their piece of the $150,000 prize fund. Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, and Vidit Gujrathi are among the players who participate with their teams.

On Tuesday the 21st of February, the Indian Yogis with RB Ramesh and Nubairshah Shaikh as captain & manager, made their comeback by winning the Canada Chessbrahs.

Vidit Gujrathi beat Magnus Carlsen to give a valuable and impressive point to his team. Vidit capitalised on a tactical oversight by Magnus, who totally missed a checkmate in 3 moves.

Vidit’s win was celebrated on Twitter and India’s media as the 28-year-old GM joined the likes of fellow Indian GMs Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi in beating Carlsen. The Indian trio had earlier pulled off wins over the World Champion in 2022 in various events.
