Richard Rapport Reveals His Second for the Candidates
Richard Rapport revealed one of his second for the 2022 Tournament in a tweet: It’s Ljubomir Ljubojević, elite Serbian Grandmaster with a lot of experience. Ljubojević is from the generation of Karpov and other chess heroes from the 70s.
Richard Rapport is all smiles on his way to Madrid, accompanied by Ljubojević. The Hungarian GM recently announced that he is switching federations, but chess politics is probably irrelevant — he very much hopes to win the Candidates on his first try.
The Candidates Tournament, the final qualifier to the World Chess Championship Match, is held in Madrid, Spain, on June 16 — July 5, 2022. Top eight players play in an intense double round robin event (all play all twice), and the winner will become the challenger for the title of the World Chess Champion.
