Peruvian Chess Players Qualify For The Armageddon Championship Series

In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, two chess players from Peru have earned their place in the prestigious Armageddon Championship Series. Grandmaster Jose Martinez and International Master Renato Terry emerged victorious in the Armageddon Online Final: Americas tournament, hosted by the FIDE Online Arena on January 15th.

The tournament featured a total prize fund of €10,000, with Martinez and Terry taking home €3,000 and €2,000 respectively for their performance. As the winners of the tournament, both players have secured their spot in the upcoming Armageddon Championship Series, set to take place later this year in Berlin.

The Armageddon Championship Series is a one-of-a-kind, globally-televised chess event that pits elite players against each other in intense, high-stakes blitz and Armageddon matches. The matches will be broadcast live on World Chess Channels and various platforms, with live play-by-play commentary, in-depth sideline coverage as well as interactive elements, such as heartbeat and stress level.

The next and the last Armageddon Online Final: Asia & Oceania will take place on January 22 at 13:00 UTC, with commentary from @Lularobs and David Vizgan, host of the popular Chess Podcast. The last two finalists remain to be known.
