Magnus Carlsen to play in the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships

Magnus Carlsen will be competing for the world championship titles in rapid and blitz chess, despite having recently relinquished his title as world champion in classical chess.

Carlsen is the world’s top-ranked chess player and has previously won the world championship in classical chess three times. He is also a three-time World Rapid Chess Champion and five-time World Blitz Chess Champion. In 2022 Carlsen announced his decision to relinquish his title. Despite this, he is determined to remain at the top of the chess world and will be competing for the world championship titles in rapid and blitz chess.

The rapid and blitz chess tournament will be held in the Kazakh city of Almaty from 25 to 30 December this year and will feature the top chess players from around the world including Hikaru Nakamura, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Anish Giri, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and others.
