A Championship Chess Set That Fits Into One’s Apartment, Finally
World Chess, the company behind the most exciting chess events in the world as well as the iconic World Chess Championship set design, has been obsessed with putting chess sets in people’s homes. The company’s biggest merchandising hit, the official Championship Set, while being the favorite among elite chess players, is too big for an average apartment. The new chess set, with a beautiful Bauhaus board, solves the size issue while remaining as cool as a chess set can get. Enter the ‘Home Edition’.
The set is designed by Pentagram’s Daniel Weil. Introduced in 2013, the set was designed for the Championship cycle and has been exclusively used in the Championship matches and all qualifiers ever since. For the home edition, the size of the pieces is reduced by 20 percent, making it fit any home. The set is beautiful. King’s size is 3 inches, and you can use it for elite level chess as well as casual or club play. Pieces for this set are handmade from boxwood by expert craftsmen.
The design of the board is inspired by the Bauhaus tradition. It does not have a full-size border, making it very precise and geometric. The color of the board is striking: deep dark shades complement the pieces. This board design has been introduced by World Chess in 2022. It is manufactured from high-quality MDF and walnut. The classic World Chess hexagon is inlaid on both sides.
The set is available today exclusively from the official World Chess shop at just $379, including both the board and chessmen.
