17-year-old Bibisara Assaubayeva is the new World Blitz Champion with one round to spare
IM and WGM Bibisara Assaubayeva won the 2021 FIDE Women’s World Blitz Championship with a round to spare, after winning second place in the Women’s Rapid Championship.
The 17-year-old chess prodigy from Kazakhstan had an amazing tournament, scoring 14/17, winning 13 games, and 120 blitz rating points. Assaubayeva dominated the women’s tournament beating numerous GMs, including Anna Muzychuk, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Humpy Koneru, and Aleksandra Goryachkina.
Assaubayeva was repeatedly the Champion of Kazakhstan, earning her WFM title at the age of seven, when she won the World Youth Championships in Caldas Novas, Brazil in the Girls U8 section.
In March 2019 she made her debut in the Kazakhstani national team at the Women’s World Team Championship on the 3rd and 2nd boards and gained 5 points out of 9; the result was the best in the team. The same year she became WGM.
In August 2021, Assaubayeva won the Asian Women’s Continental Online Chess Championship, for which she wrote on her Instagram: “Today I managed to win the title of Asian women’s champion! This is my first significant title among women! Thank you all very much for your support”.
